When you are opening a new account in Finom, identity verification is one of the mandatory steps for both companies and freelancers. We use ID verification with Sumsub.
What is Sumsub ID verification?
Sumsub ID verification is a step-by-step verification process for us to be able to verify your ID documents and confirm your identity, as part of the legal requirements for opening a bank account.
Sumsub’s policies, procedures, and workflows regarding personal data processing of EU residents are fully compliant with GDPR requirements within the EU.
Your data is processed according to EU legislation and protected according to European data protection protocols.
What documents are required for verification?
For Sumsub ID verification, we accept the following documents:

Passports
We also accept residence permits, but only if issued by one of the following countries:
The Netherlands
Cyprus
Belgium
Spain
Portugal
Latvia
Austria
Malta
Ireland
France
Italy

What should you do next?
After you have entered your company data and confirmed the company’s Legal Representative, you will be redirected to the Identity verification step.
If you are a legal representative of the company and you are registering the account
We will send you a link via SMS to start the ID verification with Sumsub. We recommend following the process from your phone for a better experience.
The verification consists of 2 steps: verification of your ID document and a selfie with liveness detection.
The page will open for you with the instructions
Click on Continue. You will be redirected to a page where you will be asked to indicate if your country of residence is the United States (US) or another country. This does not influence the verification process and is only needed for Sumsub to be able to correctly process your data according to the applicable legislation that can differ between Europe and the US.
Once you’ve made a choice, you will be redirected to the next page. We will ask you to choose the country that issued your ID document as well as the type of the document: Passport, ID card or Residence permit.
For each type of document, when chosen, an instruction will be presented to you which advises how to take the photo

Please remember:
The photo should be of good quality, bright and clear, with all the data easily readable
The entire document should fit in the picture, with all corners visible
Sumsub will request you to allow access to your phone’s camera (this may require you adjusting settings and permissions for the camera and browser you are using)
You will be asked to take a photo of the front side of the document
You will be able to check the photo and accept or redo it
Once it is done, you will be asked to scan the back of your document (if applicable)
You will be able to check the photo and accept or redo it. Please make sure that all information on your document is clearly visible and legible
Once it is successfully done, you will receive confirmation that the document scan was received by Sumsub
The next step is a selfie. You will see a page with instructions of what you have to do.
Click on “I’m ready” when you are ready
First, you will be asked to look at the camera, position your head within the frame and hold still, so the tool can scan your face
Next, you will need to roll your head in circular motion
Once your face has been scanned successfully, you will be redirected to a status page informing you that your data is being processed
The status of the verification will be updated automatically
You will need to return to the Finom platform to complete the account opening process.
Other legal representatives of the company or shareholders may need to go through ID verification as well.
In your Finom personal space, you will receive a link to verification that you will need to share with them.
